So what do you do now that your pierced?

This should go without saying but it is extremely important to keep the area clean to prevent infections. DO NOT use soaps with dyes or fragrances (I used the "regular" old fashioned Dial). Using these soaps could create a whole bunch of problems you don't want. Your piercing should be cleaned three times a day making sure the ring is rotated while doing so. It usually takes about six months for your body to heal itself. As simplistic as this may sound cleaning/rotating/common sense is all you need to do. **Also wear jeans/pants that won't constantly brush up against the piercing throughout the day. This could actually start an infection. I've been asked countless times "How will I know if I have an infection". Believe me you'll know!! To put it into words you may not like if "puss" is coming out of the piercing you've got an infection. Yes, cleaning will help but you should go to your doctor if it gets worse. *IMPORTANT* If you don't take care of yourself your only option is to remove it, wait till it heals and then pierce it again. Honestly I can't think of anything worse.

So what do you do now that your healed?

So what I did was go back to the person that pierced me and had them remove the starter ring. I did this because I didn't know how to remove the captive without hurting myself. Yes, twelve years later, I now know how to but I was a novice at the time. Basically if your uncomfortable with removing it this is your best option. Also if you don't know the gauge and length your piercing is you can find out at this time. It is important to only wear rings that fit you. I also have a diagram of how to measure rings on my website. Only measure the barbell... DON'T include the ball and keep your ruler flat (don't dip down into the ring) because you won't get an accurate measurement.

I hope this information was able to help!! If you have any doubts with this advice don't take it. AND If your piercing is infected go to your doctor, don't listen to any advice on the web. Only your doctor should diagnose and treat you.
